My only sunshine, You make me happy, when skies are grey….
On the dull day’s you are my light,
Even those day’s when you’ve kicked me all night.
Before you was born the trouble began.
For 39 weeks the room always span.
I was admitted to hospital with HG.
I was fed through a drip and couldn’t pee.
The doctor that day told me you was a boy.
“They cause more trouble but bring more joy!”
I was so dehydrated I couldn’t lift my head so for 9 months whilst pregnant, I laid in bed.
At 38 weeks they worried about my size.
They predicted you’d be four pounds – that was all lies.
Four little pounds plus another three,
Seven pounds of loveliness was hiding inside of me.
At one day old and in the smallest clothes you was put in a incubator with tubes through your nose.
The tubes were to feed you, the light for your skin.
You was yellow with jaundice and ever so thin.
A few days later we brought you home,
Bundled in hats and booties like a little garden gnome.
You was born with a tongue tie which affected your weight.
You got smaller and smaller despite what you ate.
At ten weeks you had a corrective op,
From that day on your didn’t stop.
Your weight soared and soon was on track,
Holding you now started to hurt my back.
At 6 months we started to ween you with food.
You liked the fruit and yoghurt but nothing stewed.
At 8 months old you started to crawl,
Then not long after you was standing tall.
By 11 months you could walk on your own,
That’s when I realised I had reason to moan.
You was 1 before your first tooth came through,
Just a few more before you could really chew.
At 2 and a bit you’re the perfect boy.
Into everything in sight and love a new toy.
Your favourite food is pasta covered in cheese but sometimes you’d rather a bowl of peas.
You love singing songs and playing games;
Aeroplanes, cars, boats and trains.
You love all animals especially our dogs.
You like the guinea pigs at nannys and our pet frogs.
You’re cheeky, naughty and tell me no,
A phase I hope you’ll soon outgrow.
The best days are those with you by my side,
Even if it involves a hundred goes on a slide.
I love that you enjoy our walks in the trees;
Paddling in rivers and enjoying the breeze.
You make me smile and proud you’re mine;
Bright, happy and cheeky, my sunshine.
