One day I woke up in a fright,
I just couldn’t believe the sight!
With a shooting pain in my right breast,
I really didn’t feel my best.
My poorly right boob was bleeding,
So I got my phone for some Google reading.
The words I could see we’re quite scary,
The situation feeling pretty hairy.
I paid my doctor a visit,
He checked me over and I asked “what is it?”
An urgent referral was made,
Two weeks wait for my worries to hopefully fade.
The pain and bleeding we’re persistent,
My positivity was becoming distant.
The specialist gave my boob a squeeze,
Tried to put my mind at ease.
The results from swabs came back abnormal,
Me getting topless was my new formal!
An ultrasound next to try and look deeper,
Was my boob going to be a keeper?
I saw a surgeon to see what to do,
A small operation I would need to go
A total duct excision is what she called it,
My worries we’re easing I wasn’t feeling so shit!
Finally the day to operate came around,
A little papilloma is what they found.
My right boob now sags and droops,
I sometimes forget and catch it..Oops!
Without the ducts I won’t be able to breastfeed,
But if it had been left to continue to bleed,
the papilloma would have grown a lot bigger,
Instead of a scalpel they would have needed a digger!
The surgeon said if they had left it much longer,
The nasty cells growing would have gotten stronger.
She mentioned that dreaded word “cancer”,
Lucky for me I’m not much of a chancer!
The worst case scenario was luckily avoided,
More vigilant I got and problems prevented.
So now my right boob is broken,
A dodgy nipple is my token.
I’m one of the lucky ones I know,
Sadly that’s not always the way it can go.
So ladies and gents check your chests regularly,
If you leave it too late you may not be as lucky as me!
